Southwest DeKalb focused on region tournament

DeKALB – Southwest DeKalb High’s Lady Panthers softball program has been rolling through the season but as time is running out in the region race, a three-way tie for first has Southwest in a good position.

“There are three teams tied for first place and we are one of the three,” head coach Dr. Jerry White said. “Based on the regional rules we will be the third seed competing in the first game against Chamblee High on October 3 at 5 PM at Arabia Mountain High. I see the team moving in a positive direction maintaining our Panther Pride. We are on course for the goals the coaches and I set for the team.”

For White, building with their young talent has been the goal of the program since the start of the season. However, one huge loss to Arabia Mountain still hangs over the program that’s ripped off a lot of huge victories in recent weeks.

“To build a competitive team it usually takes about two years,” White said. “One of the key reasons the coaches and I feel the team started performing to their potential is because they began to believe in themselves and started competing as one.”

The Lady Panthers have a young team according to their roster on MaxPreps.com, just three seniors line the sophomore-laden class.

“Each game, one of the ten players would step up for the team,” White said. “One team, one goal – competing for the Southwest Dekalb softball program.”

Southwest DeKalb is actively chasing the region tournament title ahead of the Georgia High School Association state tournament.
