The Class 5A No. 2 ranked Chamblee Lady Bulldogs are the lone remaining DCSD volleyball team in the state playoffs after a 3-0 win over Johnson-Gainesville at Chamblee last Saturday.
Chamblee allowed eight points or less in the three sets of their Class 5A state playoff opener. The Lady Bulldogs rolled to the sweep by scores of 25-8, 25-6 and 25-8 to make their third consecutive Sweet 16 appearance.
Now 16-11 in the state playoffs, Chamblee faces Decatur for the third time this season on Tuesday at Chamblee with match time set for 5:30 pm. Chamblee has won both meetings this season with Decatur.
In other Class 5A state playoff first-round matches, Arabia Mountain (32-8) fell 3-0 (15-25, 19-25, 14-25) to Walnut Grove in the match played at Riverwood. In matches played at Buford, Clarkston (21-17) dropped a 3-0 decision to Loganville (31-19) and Southwest DeKalb (24-11) fell to host Buford by a 3-0 score.
Lakeside (26-18) traveled to Milton to take on Mill Creek (34-13) and lost a tough three-set Class 7A state playoff match. Mill Creek pulled out a tight 26-24 opener before winning 25-17 and 25-15 to close out the match.
Dunwoody’s return to the state playoffs ended in a hard-fought 3-1 loss to Creekview (30-14) at Northgate. The Lady Wildcats fell 23-25 in the opening set before taking a 25-13 win in the second. Creekview bounced back to pull out a 25-21 victory in the third set and then outlasted Dunwoody (24-20) 26-24 to close out the win.
Druid Hills (20-18) had its season end in the first round of the Class 4A state playoffs with a 3-0 loss to Northside-Columbus (31-20) at Perry on Saturday.
Redan (20-15) wrapped up its 2018 season with a 3-0 loss to Islands (19-11) at Pace Academy on Sunday.
