Chamblee Finishes in Top 10 at Class 4A/5A State Swimming Championships

The Chamblee Lady Bulldogs picked up their fifth Top 5 finish at the Swimming and Diving State Championships. It was their sixth consecutive Top 10 finish at state.

The Chamblee Lady Bulldogs won four gold medals and one silver on the way to a third place finish in the 2021 GHSA Girls Class 4A/5A State Championships at Georgia Tech on Wednesday.

It was the fifth Top Five finish for the Lady Bulldogs since 2016 including the state championship run in 2019. They were fifth in 2016, second in 2017, second in 2020 and came in eighth in 2018 for six consecutive Top 10 finishes.

Chamblee was in a tight battle with Marist and St. Pius x for the state title finishing with 312 points behind state champion Marist (325) and runner-up St. Pius (323).

The 2021 run fueled by junior Kyla Maloney who won an individual gold and silver medal while swimming legs in the gold medal winning 200 medley relay and 400 free relay.

Maloney teamed with Mary Adam, Evelyn Entrekin and Anna Blankenship to win the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:46.93 bringing home the gold in the event for third consecutive year.

The junior moved up one spot in the 200 freestyle as Maloney clocked a time of 1:51.06 to move up from her bronze finish in 2020 to a silver this year. Maloney followed up with her second consecutive state gold medal in the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.85.

Senior Mary Adam finished fourth in the state in the 100 breaststroke a year ago behind bronze medalist and teammate then sophomore Evelyn Entrekin. Adam made the move up three spots to take the gold in 2021 with a time of 1:04.80 while Entrekin moved up one spot to take the silver in 1:05.49.

Maloney and Entrekin teamed up with Catherine Smart and Anna Blankenship for the fourth gold medal of the day by Chamblee taking the 400 free relay with a time of 3:35.34.

Entrekin came up just short of a bronze in the 200 individual medley taking fourth in 2:04.86.

Chamblee picked up a pair of fifth place finishes by Anna Blankenship in the 500 freestyle (5:17.23) and the 200 free relay (1:31.62).

Class 4A/5A Boys
The Chamblee Bulldogs picked up an eighth Top 10 finish in nine years (since 2013) finishing seventh for the second time in three years.

Three fourth place finishes pace the Bulldogs into their seventh place in the standings. Sophomore Micah Neely finished just out of the medal standings in the one meter diving competition with 432.15 points to get the Bulldogs started.

Junior Thomas Rice grabbed a fourth place finish in the 500 freestyle in 4:54.07 and the 200 free relay team also took fourth with a time of 1:31.62.

Senior Kelsey Summers finished ninth in the 50 free in 21.92 to put Stephenson in a tie for 27th in the team standings.
