ROCKDALE – Numerous programs took part in the Conyers Classic with five DeKalb County programs crossing the county line to play at Rockdale and Salem High Schools over the weekend.

Martin Luther King Jr., High School competed both days in the Silver bracket against Rockdale, Warner Robins, Jonesboro, and Arabia Mountain High. Even though MLK toughed it out against their competition, it was all about gaining experience.

“It gives a lot of exposure to our girls who have never played different teams, for different counties, different regions,” MLK head coach Jovan Phillips said. “A lot of our girls it’s their first year playing volleyball. We improve our confidence and growing.”

Some of the players that made an impact for the program were Jaili Greene and Victoria Euler.

Arabia Mountain High School played against MLK on day two of the classic winning 2-1.

“We started pretty slow but then we came on, made a lot of liberal substitutions,” Arabia Mountain head coach Bruce Pfleger said. “When we needed to, we hunkered down and finished hard.”

Some highlight players for Arabia Mountain High School are Jada Lawrence, Deja McLeod, and Ashlynn Carthan.
