A two-year drought came to an end for the Dunwoody Lady Wildcats on Tuesday at Arabia Mountain with a 30-32 win over the two-time reigning champions Lakeside Lady Vikings.

The two teams have battled each other for the title finishing one-two since Dunwoody’s 38-39 victory in 2010. The Wildcats have won seven in that time span including a four-year run (2012-15) atop the standings and Lakeside four. This was the seventh time in the past 11 races that the two teams finished within 10 points of each other.

Druid Hills (68) claimed third place in the girls race just as it did in the boys’ followed by Chamblee (123), Clarkston (135), Stephenson (186) and Southwest DeKalb (189).

Dunwoody freshman Claire Shelton (21:50.20), last year’s JV champ, captured the varsity title this year with a 34 second victory over teammate Kate Bacon (22:24.20) for the Lady Wildcats big start to the race.

Lakeside came across in the next three spots led by Maggie Welp (22:38.50) followed by Haley Davis (22:39.60) and Savannah Spires (22:42.50).

Dunwoody collected the sixth and eight spots in the Top 10 as Emma Tessler (23:01.90) followed Spires and Sarah Rudder (23:28.20) two spots later just behind Druid Hills seventh place finisher Harley Martz (23:04.30).

Lakeside would get three of the next four spots led by Tristan Linscott (23:40.90) in ninth, Abigail McHoul (24:11.30) in 11th and Olivia Rotolo (24:30.00) in 12th.

It would not be enough as Dunwoody’s Emma Parker (24:26.20) crossed in 13th place overall to clinch the title for the Wildcats.

Druid Hills’ Katie Blount (24:06.70) helped key Druid Hills third place finish by coming in 10th to go with Martz’s seventh.

The title was Dunwoody’s ninth overall and eighth since 2009.
