Eight DeKalb Tennis Teams Reach State Tennis Playoffs

Eight teams representing four DeKalb County schools reached the 2021 GHSA State Tennis Playoffs including Chamblee, Dunwoody, Lakeside and Tucker High Schools.

Lakeside got a jump on the state playoffs with first round matches on Thursday of last week. The Vikings (8-2), the No. 2 seed from Region 4-6A, knocked off Region 1 No. 3 seed Lee County 3-0 to advance to the second round of the Class 6A state playoffs. The opponent, date and site are yet to be determined.

The Lady Vikings (6-4) opened the Class 6A state playoffs with an identical 3-0 victory over Houston County on Thursday to advance to the Sweet 16. Lakeside travels Region 2 No. 1 seed Statesboro, a 3-0 winner over Evans on Friday, in the second round this week with a day and time yet to be set.

Druid Hills played its two Class 4A first round matches on Friday. The Red Devils dropped a tough 3-2 decision to Cedartown to wrap up their season while the Lady Red Devils closed out their season with a first round 5-0 loss to Cedartown.

Three matches are set in DeKalb County today (Monday, April 19) and one is on the road.

Dunwoody hosts Denmark in both boys and girls Class 7A first round play. The Wildcats (11-2) host Denmark at Dunwoody High at 4:00 pm while the Lady Wildcats (12-6) are hosting the Denmark girls at Vermack Swim and Tennis Center at 4:00 pm. Both Dunwoody teams won their respective region titles.

The Chamblee Lady Bulldogs (14-3) won the Region 5-5A title and play host to Region 8-5A No. 4 seed Johnson-Gainesville today at 4:00 pm set for the Chamblee High courts.

Two teams are on the road in the first round today in the Chamblee Bulldogs (12-5), Region 5-5A No. 3 seed, and the Tucker Lady Tigers, Region 4-6A No. 4 seed.

Chamblee goes on the road to Region 8-5A No. 2 seed Jackson County with the match set for a 4:00 pm start. Tucker travels to Region 1-6A No. 1 seed Valdosta for a 3:00 pm match today.

The Tucker Tigers, the Region 4-6A No. 3 seed, travels to Region 1-6A No. 2 seed Houston County on Tuesday (April 20) with their first round match scheduled for 4:00 pm.
