Letter to Fans on Current Attendance Policy for Winter Sports

Dear Parents and Spectators,

The DeKalb County School District approved the commencement of winter sports competitions on December 9, 2020. In an effort to limit interaction and allow student athletes to fully participate, we have determined that the best option, at this time, is to prohibit all spectators from attending our athletic competitions. This includes: staff with DCSD passes, coaches with GHSA passes, parents and spectators.

Our objective is to ensure that our athletes and coaches are following all COVID mitigation strategies as well reduce the chances that teams may be impacted by any inadvertent exposure to the virus. As we move further into the season we will reevaluate our decision with the intent of phasing in parents and spectators as quickly as possible.

We know how enthusiastic many DCSD fans are regarding team sports, and understand that this decision will be disappointing to many. Please know that we are working hard to protect the health, safety and welfare of all students, coaches, staff and stakeholders; and we thank you in advance for your cooperation.

If you have any questions, please email me directly.

Mr. James P. Jackson
Executive Director, Athletics
DeKalb County School District
