Nine DCSD Cross Country Teams Qualify for State Meets

The Lakeside Lady Vikings won the Region 4-6A title to lead a group of nine state qualifiers from DeKalb County cross country programs.

Lakeside placed six runners in the Top 10 of the 4-6A Girls’ Championship to run away from North Atlanta (45) and Westlake 62 to claim the championship trophy.

Savannah Spires fourth place finish (23:59.80) led a group of six consecutive Lady Vikings to cross in the Top 10. She was followed in order by Haley Davis (24:00.67), Tristan Linscott (24:09.74), Abigail McHoul (24:10.39), Olivia Rotolo (24:11.03) and Shreya Chatterjee (24:18.65).

Lakeside (53) took second place in the boys’ race behind North Atlanta (26) while Tucker (64) claimed third.

The Vikings had five runners in the Top 15 led by Top 10 finishers Adam Grisch (18:28.42) in fifth and Evan Leahy (19:06.15) in ninth. A string of three runners finished in 12th through 14th for the Vikings led by Drew McGraw (19:42.15), Brandon Rutland (19:43.37) and Matthew Burn (19:44.31).

Tucker’s third place finish was paced by Yordanos Ephram (17:52.61) who finished second overall and Abedelemejid Kerebo (18:43.08) in seventh.

Region 7-7A
Freshman Claire Shelton led the Dunwoody Lady Wildcats (49) to a third place and state qualifying finish in the Region 7-7A girls’ race finishing just two points behind champion Archer (47).

Norcross was second with 48 points.

Shelton ran a 19:52.9 to win the individual race while junior Kate Bacon (20:51.2) finished fifth. The rest of the Lady Wildcats five team members all finished in the Top 20 led by senior Emma Tessler (22:04.6) in 13th.

The Wildcats came up just three points shy of qualifying for state with 108 points in the boys’ race just behind Discovery’s 105. Archer (29) won the meet followed by Norcross (31) and Duluth (100).

Dunwoody’s Ethan Archibald came up just two places shy of qualifying for state as an individual taking eighth with a time of 17:30.8.

Region 5-5A
Chamblee qualified both its girls’ and boys’ teams for state as the two squads both took third place finishes in the Region 5-5A Cross Country Championships at Decatur’s Legacy Park.

The Bulldogs (95) finished behind Decatur (21) and St. Pius X (35) in the boys’ championship race followed by Northview (107) in fourth and Southwest DeKalb (137) in sixth.

Chamblee’s top finisher was Diego De Alba (17:52.92) who picked up 14 points for Chamblee.

The Lady Bulldogs (71) had three runners finish in the Top 11 to claim a spot in the state meet with a third place finish of their own. St. Pius X (19) was first with Decatur (56) ahead of Chamblee in second. Clarkston (153) was fifth and Southwest DeKalb (185) was sixth.

Zoe Garcia (21:23.16) was eighth and Olivia Tabron (21:25.44) was ninth to lead Chamblee. Ariel Ellis came in 11th with a time of 21:34.74).

Region 6-4A
Druid Hills claimed the runner-up spot in the boys’ and girls’ Region 6-4A cross country championships to claim berths in the state meet.

The Red Devils (42) claimed second behind Marist (17) in the boys’ championship. Emmanuel Green was seventh with a time of 17:59.0 to lead Druid Hills while teammate Will Goldsmith was eight in 18:02.0.

Owen Blount (19:27.0) lead a group of four consecutive Red Devils with his 11th place finish. He was followed in order by Ethan Berryman (19:42.0), Nathaniel Greene (19:58.0) and David-James Landis (20:24.0).

Arabia Mountain’s Richard Gladney (22:15.0) finished 15th.

Marist (15) swept the top five spots in the girls’ race and Druid Hills captured the eighth through 13th spots for second (50) while Stephenson (84) qualified for state with a third place finish.

Katie Blount (21:47.0) led the group of six with an eighth place finish while Harley Martz (22:31.0) in ninth and Charlotte Walker (23:59.0) was 10th.

Validia Arias (25:31.0) continued the string of runners for Druid Hills in 11th followed in order by Coco Cutts (25:54.0) and Isabelle Fishbein (26:57.0).

Region 6-2A
Towers did not field a full team in the Region 6-2A boys’ meet, but put three runners in the Top 21.

Titus Hand (24:17.27) was 18th to lead the group of three in order including Daeshawn Logan in 20th (24:58.65) and Emmanuel Clement in 21st (26:57.02).

The GHSA State Meets are set for Friday, November 6 and Saturday, November 7 at the Carrolton Course at Carrollton (GA) High School.
