Panther Tennis Duo Moves on to Next Level with Scholarship Offers

Two 2019 Southwest DeKalb graduate tennis players joined seven previous Panther athletes since 2012 to become recipients of college scholarships over this past summer.

Khalil Moss and Khalen Wimes made an impression on the Panther tennis circuit on the way to earning their scholarships to play on the collegiate level.

Moss joined the Southwest DeKalb tennis program in the fall of 2015 and went on to become a four-year letterman in earning his offer from Fort Valley State University. Fort Valley is coached by Willie Foster.

The Panther played on the No. 1 doubles team in 2016 and 2017 compiling a 17-7 record, including a 9-4 record in 2017 which ranked No. 2 in DeKalb County in wins. He went on to play at the No. 2 and No. 3 singles position his final two seasons while going a stellar 25-7.

Wimes played doubles for the 2018 and 2019 seasons for the Panthers compiling a 23-13 record overall including teaming up with Kevin Vazquez-Reyes in 2019 to go 12-4 at No. 1 doubles to lead DeKalb County in wins. He finished his academic career at Southwest DeKalb with a 3.4 GPA.

He joins a Point University team coached by Chad Simpson which reached the third round of the 2019 NAIA National Tennis Championships.

Other Southwest DeKalb tennis standouts receiving scholarships since 2012 include Jasmine Riddick (2012), Johnson C. Smith; Felecia Penn (2012), Tuskegee University; Kalin Harrison (2012), Fisk University; Odell McCree (2012), Fisk University; Quadarris Kennedy (2012), Fisk University; Kaylin Roman (2014), Johnson C. Smith; and Danielle Mattis (2018), Brescia University.

The Southwest DeKalb tennis program is headed up by Lance Davenport.
