Redan Cruises to Four Region 5-3A Victories to Lead Week 6 Baseball Action

5-3A wins over Salem and Cedar Grove during DCSD Week 6 baseball action.

The Redan Raiders rolled to four Region 5-3A wins over Salem and Cedar Grove during DCSD Week 6 baseball action.

Redan led the way among five DeKalb County teams that posted perfect records in action from last week. Coach Alexander Wyche’s Raiders rolled past Salem (15-0) March 22, Cedar Grove (12-5) March 24, Salem (15-0) March 27 and Cedar Grove (11-1) March 27 by the cumulative margin of 53-6 in a stellar 4-0 showing that pushed Redan to 10-5 overall and 4-0 in Region 5-AAA.

Coach Bobby Link’s Tucker Tigers remained on a roll, sweeping Langston Hughes in three straight lopsided decisions of 10-0 March 22, 17-1 March 24 and 10-0 March 26 to run their winning streak to six in a row and push their records to 12-5 overall and 8-1 in Region 4-AAAAAA.

Coach Brian Ely’s Chamblee Bulldogs have now won four in a row and are 9-2 over their last 11 games, besting Stone Mountain (15-0) March 22 and Stone Mountain (18-0) again March 23 to move to 11-6-1 overall on the year and 4-2 in Region 5-AAAAA.

Coach Tyrus Taylor’s Southwest DeKalb Panthers took a pair from Lithonia, posting triumphs of 17-0 March 22 and 16-2 March 24 in moving to 7-7 overall and 3-3 in Region 5-AAAAA.

Coach Timothy Jones and the Stephenson Jaguars round out the list of perfect teams from last week, collecting two straight impressive triumphs over Arabia Mountain by the scores of 12-2 March 22 and Arabia Mountain (13-7) again March 24 to move to 3-3 overall and 2-0 in Region 6-AAAA.

Towers used a sterling effort on the mound from junior Demetress Broughton picking up its first victory of the year in a 12-0 home decision over Clarkston March 26. Broughton Started and went the full four innings, striking out 11 and walking four while tossing a no-hitter. Sophomore Isaiah Logan led the Titan offensive push, going 2-3 with two runs scored, two RBI and three stolen bases.

Clarkston likewise received a strong mound outing from sophomore Angelo Nunn, striking out six while allowing one hit, five walks and no earned runs over six innings. Junior Brandon Cooper shined brightest on the offensive end, going 2-3 with two RBI and one run scored.
