Salem Middle Improves to 4-0 with 26-0 Win over Redan Middle

The Salem Lions moved alone atop the Region 3 Middle School Standings with a convincing 26-0 victory over the Redan Raiders last Saturday at Avondale Stadium.

Amari George and Jaleel Baugh played big roles in the win as Salem’s top performers. Baugh scored two touchdowns in the game while George added a score and led the way with eight tackles on defense. The Lions improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in Region 3 play. Redan dropped to 1-1 overall and 1-1 in the region standings.

In other Region 3 action Miller Grove rallied late to upend Freedom 8-6. The Rams took a 6-0 lead early on a 42-yard touchdown pass from Quaricus Hurley to Xavier Ivey. Ivey finished with three catches for 53 yards and added an interception on defense to go with an eight-tackle performance by Nysyr George in the loss.

McNair built up a 14 lead at the half and cruised to a 28-0 win over Bethune in Region 4 play at Godfrey Stadium. McNair improved to 1-0-1 overall and in region play. Bethune fell to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the region.

Chapel Hill got touchdown runs by Braylon Carter and Caleb Winfrey in a 14-0 Region 4 win over Columbia. The Panthers improved to 3-0-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the region while Columbia fell to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the region.

A defensive battle in Decatur was determined by a big play coming from the Champion defense in the fourth quarter to pick up an 8-0 victory over Renfroe (0-3, 0-2).

The game was knotted at 0-0 in the fourth quarter when Champion’s Jackson Cole picked off a Renfroe pass and returned it for a touchdown. Jacoby Huff completed the scoring by tacking on the two-point conversion to make the final of 8-0.

Champion improved to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in Region 2.

In other games Henderson (2-1, 1-0) knocked off Sequoyah (1-3, 1-1) 22-0, Stephenson (3-1, 2-0) moved to the No. 1 spot in Region 2
with a 28-6 win over Stone Mountain (0-2, 0-1)
