DeKALB – Another week is down in the Georgia High School softball season but action hasn’t died down yet. Numerous county programs are making gains throughout the young season.
There is also a three way tie for first in region 5-AAAAA.
Arabia Mountain (4-6, 2-0)
Ten games have come and gone but Arabia Mountain’s Lady Rams are sitting at 4-6. But that’s not a telling sign as the program is 2-0 in Region 5-AAAAA. Arabia has suffered a recent loss to Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy with a score of 20-12. Arabia will have two region games this week against Chamblee and then against Southwest DeKalb.
Cedar Grove’s Maxpreps is not up-to-date and is missing final scores as of press time.
Chamblee (7-1, 2-0)
The start of the season has gone well for Chamblee a 2-0 Region 5-AAAAA record puts them tied with Southwest DeKalb and Arabia Mountain. On top of that, the Lady Bulldogs are getting a lot of help at the plate from Rachel Lovejoy, through eight games, she’s leading the team with a .650 average. Lovejoy is also leading in RBIs with 13 and a homerun.
Mary Axelson and Brooke George are also batting over .500. Margaret Axelson is currently the top pitcher with more innings pitched and has registered 18 punchouts on the season.
Columbia (1-3, 0-2)
The Lady Eagle’s aren’t faring so well at the start of the season with two losses in region play but a recent win over Cedar Grove should help build momentum.
Druid Hills (2-2, 1-1)
Druid Hills is one win to the good in Region 4-AAAA play after a victory over Salem early in the season. However, Hampton High downed the Lady Red Devils in 15-0 fashion.
Dunwoody (7-1, 2-1)
Dunwoody’s season has been fairly easy going despite a 7-6 loss to Chattahoochee, Dunwoody is on a four game winning streak. Of course sitting with a 2-1 record has the 7-AAAAAA school tied for second.
Lakeside (1-5, 0-1)
Lakeside opened their season with a 7-6 loss to St. Pius X Catholic and returned with a win over Southwest DeKalb but since, it’s been a long month of August. The bright sport is Brady Miccichi who is batting .438 alongside Mari Wade (.400).
Lithonia (1-4-1, 0-3)
Lithonia is at the bottom of Region 5-AAAAA but still has time to catchup. A 27-27 tie to Mays is how the season started before three straight losses hit the board. The losing skid was snapped against Central Gwinnett with a 20-4 win but Southwest DeKalb recently handed the Lady Bulldogs another loss.
N’Layia Perkins is batting .583 this season with seven RBIs.
Martin Luther King (1-1, 1-0)
According to MaxPreps, the Lady Lions have only played in two games but won an important region game against Morrow High last week.
