LITHONIA- Several teams garnered wins in DeKalb County’s final regular season races at Arabia Mountain High School on Tuesday in a final tune-up for the DCSD County Championships next Tuesday at the Druid Hills Middle School course.

Southwest DeKalb swept the first race titles as teams wound up the DeKalb regular season meets.

The Lady Panthers place six runners in the Top 10 to outduel Arabia Mountain 15-45 for the girls’ victory in the day’s opener.

Lanee Edwards led the first trio of Southwest DeKalb runners across the finish line in first with at time of 25:29.10. Raven Thurman (27:12.40) was second and Yaria Sanders (27:35.70) was third.

Stephenson’s Deanna Rawlings (28:30.80) was fourth followed by Southwest DeKalb’s Nya Bostic (29:32.60) in fifth.

Cedar Grove took the sixth and seventh place finishes as Bobbi Turner (29:32.70) grabbed sixth and Sydney Mitchell (29:48.50) came in seventh.

Eighth place went to Southwest DeKalb’s Lauryn Bell (30:10.00) and ninth place was filled by teammate Caniece Collins (30:11.70).

Arabia Mountain’s top finisher was Mecca Johnson (31:39.30) who rounded out the Top 10.

The Panthers and Cedar Grove both scored 49 points in the boys’ race with Southwest DeKalb edging the Saints for first as the sixth runner for the Panthers, Jalon Kimborough (25:20.80) in 16th, came in ahead of Cedar Grove’s sixth place finisher Jaylen Elder (27:11.50) in 21st.

Cedar Grove’s Mikaiel Jack (21:47.70) grabbed the boys’ title in the race with teammates Kalil Mudraw (24:04.00) in seventh and Terrence Lewin (24:54.00) in 10th.

Southwest DeKalb’s first finisher was Emmanuel Smith (22:50.70) in fourth and teammate Calvin Mosley (22:58.40) was right behind in fifth.

Stephenson had a pair of runners take Top 10 finishes in second place Donald Griffin (22:00.80) and Elijah McMilliom (23:37.00) in sixth.

Arabia Mountain which finished in third just two points behind Southwest DeKalb and Cedar Grove put three runners in the Top 10 led by third place finisher Torrance Allen (22:35.40). Elijah Bibbs (24:11.10) was eighth and Sanjay Lord (24:30.70) was ninth.


Martin Luther King Jr. and Tucker swapped first and second in the final race of the day with the Lady Lions winning the girls’ race 25-33 over Tucker and the Tigers winning the boys’ run 28-41 over the Lions.

The Lady Lions dominated the Top 10 with six runners earning spots in the first 10 finishers led by Demetria Lind (28:11.50) in third and Star Grier Rower (28:35.30) in fourth.

Sixth went to King’s Aaliyah Peterson (29:32.30) followed by three teammates in eighth through tenth. Niyah Brown (30:03.40), Allison Walker (30:29.60) and Aaliyah Stewart (30:52.30) in order.

Miller Grove track state champion Emoni Coleman ran her first cross country race of the season and grabbed top honors in the girls’ race with an Arabia Mountain best time of the season at 24:15.70.

Second place Tucker put three runners in the Top 10 led by Benitaa Kawata (27:41.90) in second, Claudine Bidiku (29:16.80) in fifth and Aaliyah Goodall (29:34.00) in seventh.

Tucker’s Andrew Todd (21:18.50) finished just outside the Top 10 in 12th to clinch the boys’ win by the Tigers which had four runners in the Top 10 along with the Lions.

Yesahk Ergano (19:52.00) was second for the Tigers followed by Ian Nuhfer (20:11.20) in third and Abedelemeji Kerebo (20:25.50) in fourth. Yordanos Ephram (20:49.40) came in seventh for the Tigers.

The Lions were once again led by Demetrius Carson (19:37.70) who notched his fourth win of the season and fifth place Jamari Hopkins (20:36.60). Kingsley Harris (20:56.80) was eighth and Darian Wragg (21:11.50) was 10th.

The DCSD Junior Varsity County Championships are scheduled for today (Thursday, Sept. 27) at the Druid Hills Middle School course with the girls’ starting at 5:15 pm and the guys at 5:45 pm.

The DCSD Varsity County Championships are set for Tuesday, Oct. 2 at the Druid Hills Middle School course with start times of 5:15 pm (girls) and 5:55 pm (boys).
