The DCSD Trail to the Title Playoffs first round is now set as the middle school programs head into a week off due to fall break.

Defending Trail to the Title champion Bethune Lions (3-3, 3-1) won its second consecutive Region 4 game by knocking off the Columbia Eagles (3-3, 1-3) 16-0 to earn the No. 2 seed out of the region and the opportunity to defend their title.

The Lions open their defense on Saturday, Oct. 19 as they take on the Henderson Cougars (6-0) in a 12:00 pm kickoff at North DeKalb Stadium.

The Cougars are coming off a 56-0 victory over the Tucker Tigers (2-4), last year’s Trail to the Title runners-up. Henderson (6-0, 4-0) has only given up six points this season. It is Henderson’s second region title and first undefeated regular season.

Miller Grove 20, Lithonia 6
Miller Grove (6-0, 4-0) clinched its first region title since 2010 with a 20-6 Region 3 win over the Lithonia Bulldogs (3-3, 2-2) on Saturday at Godfrey Stadium.

The game was tied at 0-0 in the third quarter when Miller Grove’s Ta’jon Corbitt scored with a minute left in the period to put the Wolverines up 6-0. Corbitt completed a fake punt for another score early in the fourth quarter to make it 14-0.

Quarterback Bryce Blackburn then drove the Bulldogs down the field with some good passes before Tremel Lewis capped off the drive with a three-yard touchdown run to make it 14-6.

Miller Grove answered as Corbitt got loose on a long touchdown run to seal the 20-6 win.

The Wolverines move on to host Region 2 runner-up Stephenson (4-2, 3-1) in a 9:00 am game on Saturday, October 19 at Avondale Stadium.

Cedar Grove 30, Chapel Hill 0
The Cedar Grove Saints (6-0, 4-0) sealed their first region title since 2015 via a 30-0 shutout of the Chapel Hill Panthers (3-3, 2-2) at Godfrey Stadium on Saturday.

Seventh grader Boeden Walker scored two touchdowns to lead the Panthers in the win. Damarcus Smith and Tariq Wilson added one touchdown apiece for the Saints. It was Cedar Grove’s fifth undefeated regular season and first since 2015 on the way to a second consecutive Trail to the Title championship.

The Saints will be the home team as they face the Region 1 runners-up Sequoyah Chieftains (2-4, 2-2) in a game scheduled for 10:30 am at Avondale Stadium on Saturday, October 19.

Stephenson 32, Renfroe 6
Stephenson went on the road to Decatur to face Renfroe Bulldogs (4-2, 2-2) and came away with a 32-6 win to clinch a 13th consecutive trip to the playoffs.

Trent Fields got the Jaguars with a pair of early touchdowns. He ran 30 yards for the opening scored and followed up with a 35-yard run for the second as the Jaguars jumped out in front. Chiek Kieta added the two-point conversions to make it 16-0.

Devin Ingram scored on a six-yard run and Ashton Wiley added the two-point conversion to make it 24-0. Marvin Brooks would close out the scoring for Stephenson with a 25-yard touchdown reception and Andrew Perry added the two-point conversion. Marvon Harmon had five tackles, including two sacks to lead the Jaguars on defense.

The fourth first round playoff game features Region 2 winner the Champion Chargers (6-0, 4-0) hosting the Salem Lions (4-2, 3-1) in the 1:30 pm game at North DeKalb Stadium. Champion was off this past weekend after sealing its first undefeated regular season and first region title two weeks ago.

Salem returns to the playoffs for the first time since the 2012 season.
